“The word fashion comes from the Latin ‘factio’. It means something like 'to make', or 'a group of people doing something together'. Creating or shaping something, a collective activity. What do you see of that when you walk through a shopping street now? Nothing, says Kate Fletcher, professor of sustainable fashion at the Royal Danish Art Academy. For most consumers, fashion is no longer about making, but about buying.” – (NRC 7-1-2023)
Globally, the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry after the oil and gas sector. This fact – and the lack of awareness for it - gave me the final push to start my own sustainable fashion brand, where the focus lies on making long-lasting products. All our bags are handmade in Europe, made of super strong OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics, and 100% vegan. We send our bags in recycled cardboard boxes that fit right into your mailbox, limiting the use of materials and transport.
Although we put a lot of time and effort in making our products as sustainable as possible, it remains an ongoing challenge to maximize sustainability and transparency throughout out entire supply chain. There is always room for improvement. We are committed to continuous daily development to optimize our processes and products.
As with everything, awareness is the first step towards change. Must read: The Economie bijlage of 7 January 2023 in the NRC: “Een kledingkast vol vervuiling. Hoe maak je die groener?”
